The Satisfied Customer – Great Service Still Exists

Well it certainly is a change to be able to write an absolutely positive blog on an eating experience. It’s becoming a not so common occurrence.

However, for all you Australians out there and of course for those wonderful international visitors traveling in the Adelaide area, we were treated to a fantastic experience by our friends on a recent visit to Adelaide in South Australia. Our first meal of the visit was a great experience and we wondered if it could be beaten, we were in for a surprise.

A Stunning Location

On our second of several nights, we traveled 40 kms south from Adelaide Cty, enjoying some wonderful scenery along the way through the McLaren Vale wine region, to the village of Port Willunga, population 1673, arriving at the Star of Greece cafe on the cliffs above the turquoise waters of Gulf St. Vincent. It was a breathtaking view and the architecture of the cafe very simple in form.

We arrived just prior to sunset and were able to enjoy the sun setting across the gulf.

Wonderful sunset

Doesn’t get much better than this

Exceptional Service

On arriving in the restaurant the welcome was warm and friendly without being overwhelming and we were shown to our table. After giving us ample time to settle into the atmosphere, our waiter for the evening arrived and asked if we would like some water for the table, sparkling, still or tap. Our “drink” orders were taken and our evening started in earnest.

The evening started out very relaxed and at no time did we feel in any way pressured to make a decision.

Great Food

We decided on 3 courses for the evening and the waiter gave us a detailed rundown of the specials menu and left us to make our selections.

The menu was not extensive but gave us all a great choice for each course. The food was fantastic with no complaints on quality and presentation.

I am attaching a link that will take you straight to the Star of Greece site for you to view the menu. Suffice to say a fantastic evening of food and wine.

The importance of the Satisfied Customer

The most pleasing aspect of the whole experience was the quality of the service. At no time were we pressured to make decisions, the waiter never approached the table to clear plates or glasses between courses until we had all finished our meal, the wine glass was always half full and we really never felt the presence of the waiting staff unless it was necessary.

Had it not been for the quality of service, the attention of the waiting staff, I probably would not have written this post.

In all types of business, its about satisfying your customers. There has been a lot of conjecture about what is your businesses most valuable asset. My response has always been that if you don’t have the staff to deliver the service, you won’t have clients for very long.

My view is that there is always a market out there particularly for destinations but if your staff do not give great service your destination will be no longer.

It is all about you looking after your staff and your staff looking after your clients, do that well and your clients will promote your business for you.

So all you managers/owners out there, make sure you tend to your assets, treat them well, they are your success.

I highly recommend our experience at the Star of Greece Cafe, and compliment the staff and management for a memorable evening.
