Synopsis of work experience

I have been involved in the architectural profession in both the private and public sectors for over 40 years. Over this period I have gained significant experience in a range of building types including retail, commercial, residential, institutional, hospitals, tourism & hospitality and Commonwealth and State government Projects.

I am currently involved in the retail field, which is my area of expertise and passion, helping young retail business entrepreneurs with their business startups.

As Associate Director at Group GSA for 12 years, I was engaged to deliver the design and documentation packages of major, hotel & Leisure, retail, residential and commercial projects in both the US and Australia.

During the 90″s I owned and managed a design studio with my specialty being in Retail Architecture. We were involved in the design documentation and construction management of small commercial projects, and a wide range of retail projects nationally for individual retailers and National Franchise Chains.

My project expertise is in the areas of, team selection and management, project programming and resourcing, project fee proposals, planning, construction design and detailing, retail/commercial/residential design and documentation, and project coordination/management.

Along with traditional building design and construction issues, my main goal is to assist retailers to embrace the new world of retailing along with traditional ways.

I have a strong knowledge of, and have been using cadd since 1984 and am proficient in the use of Autocad 2009. I am proficient in the use of Microsoft word and excel and have used Microsoft Project at an entry level.

Specialties

Along with a love of construction detailing and commercial/residential design, my specialty is in all areas of Retail and Retail Design and I am strongly influenced by the internet and use it extensively for marketing, research and business expansion and we are currently involved in setting up a range of services to assist the retail industry.
Personal Profile

I have a great love of life and people and have experience both socially and professionally interacting with individuals and groups across all levels of business, from different cultures and nationalities, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer focus.

Interests

I have a love of music, the blues in particular, great food and fine wine, and when my hips, back, knees, ankles, shoulders, memory…………. allows me to, I enjoy, walking, golfing, cycling and kayaking.

Responsibilities

Initially engaged to setup and manage the documentation teams working on US projects.

Have worked as Project Director/Team Leader on both US and Australian projects and have been responsible for the production project fee proposals, cost plans, manning and project delivery programs, selection and management of project teams, project tenders, client management, coordination of consultants, construction design detailing, project coordination/management and site supervision.

Role involved both management of the teams and the management and delivery of the projects from both US and GSA offices, and to ensure compatibility of the cadd interface to ensure a seamless project delivery platform.

Have been involved in Marketing seminars across the US promoting the value and cost benefits of US Architects working in association with Australian firms on large projects.

Attended project Management Seminars run by PSMJ.

Services provided include full design and documentation services and all facets of project co-ordination including client management, coordination of all consultants site supervision and liaison with all relevant authorities.

From 2008 until October 2011 I was involved in projects within Australia and have been responsible for the production of project fee proposals, cost plans, selection and management of project teams, project tenders, client management, coordination of consultants, and site supervision.

Running own architectural design studio providing full Design, Documentation and Project Management Services for a range of retail and small commercial projects throughout Australia.

Clients have included several national Franchise chains, individual retailers and The Department of Construction, providing consultant services for the documentation of both local and overseas Government projects.

Responsibilities

Involved in all facets of working drawing documentation, design development, and presentation drawings for major commercial projects within the ACT.

Engaged as System Manager to maintain, develop and operate CADD System using GDS software

Continued as Systems Manager involved in system development, maintenance, assisting in allocation of resources, selection of projects to be documented on the system and as Senior Architectural Draftsman / CADD operator.
